Best Book Stand for Sermon Prep

We’ve discussed why a book stand can be a great addition to your study. But which one should you get? What is the best book stand out there? Well, there are a lot of options out there, so let me share one that I have been really pleased with so far.

The Wiztem Jasmine Book StandWiztem Sideview

This stand has been really good to me. I’ve enjoyed its sturdiness, versatility, and semi-portability. Here’s a quick run-down.

Features

[yikes-mailchimp form=”1″]Available in several sizes:

  • The smallest version is the Lilac, measuring 11.8″ x 9.4″.
  • The Clover is next measuring in at 13.4″ x 10.2″.
  • Next, is the one I purchased, the Jasmine. It measures 15.3″ x 11″.
  • Then, slightly larger, there’s the Freesia. It measures 19.6″ x 11.8″.
  • Last, if you want to go big, there the extra-wide Rosemary which at, 23.6″ x 11.8″ can hold two books at once, side-by-side. I recently purchased one of these as well and it works wonderfully.

There are also “plus” versions of all of these sizes which give an extra shelf for double-decker bookstandery. I could see the Rosemary plus becoming a permanent fixture on a dedicated study desk.

The adjustable arms hold your books open without getting in the way. They also aren’t so stiff that it’s difficult to turn the page and wedge it under the opposite arm.

The angle on all of these stands can be adjusted to whatever suits your needs.

This also means that these stands work for more than just reading.

Why The Wiztem is the Best Book Stand for Sermon Prep

Versatility

Not only does this thing work to hold my books at whatever angle I like, it also works as a laptop or tablet stand. If you let it down to one of the lowest settings, it can serve as a writing/drawing table. I have been surprised by how much I enjoy having my notepad turned up a little. It makes writing a bit more comfortable on my wrist.

Lay the stand at a lower angle, and fold the bottom shelf flat for a comfortable writing or drawing surface.
best book stand and best laptop stand in one!
This Wiztem bookstand doubles as a laptop stand.

The smaller versions of this stand offer a good balance between solid and portable. It’s made from MDF so it’s quite light, but the base is heavy enough that it doesn’t wobble, even when you’re writing on it. It also folds flat so I can toss it in my bag and take it with me.

Price

I got the Jasmine for under $35 on Amazon. That’s hard to beat for the quality and versatility.

Where This Stand Falls Short

Design

As hard as they tried with the wood look, it still looks a bit cheap. You’re not going to put this thing in your 2,000 square foot pastor’s library among your mahogany shelves, first-edition puritan writings, and fine antique desk. But for the price, it looks decent enough.

Somewhat Cumbersome to Adjust

I don’t like that I have to take everything off of the stand and turn it around just to adjust the angle. I don’t know what I was expecting, but it is a minor annoyance (Update: I’ve learned by practice to change the stand’s height and angle without taking things off. You just need to reach around to the back and moving the adjuster. But you need to get a feel for it).

Conclusion

The Wiztem Bookstand is the best book stand choice in terms of versatility, portability, and price. I’ve liked it enough that I’ve purchased two just for myself.

  • Well if this can’t go in my 2,000 square foot pastor’s library, on my mahogany shelves with my first-edition puritan writings, what’s the point? Love your stuff Regan!
